BackStory Bit: Yesterday I prayed. I prayed that The Lord bring people into my life that I could minister to.

This morning the sun shone after a deluge of nine inches of rain in Jensen Beach. My habit is to get out and get moving, early, before the heat holds thickly in the air. Today, I was a little late.

My little dinker dog and I walk the neighborhood daily for the canine meet and greet. This day brought me past the house of another regular dog walker, a young woman I often see. I know she is a believer.

I joked with her, “Aha! Now I know where you live!” We renewed our acquaintance. She showed me a photo of the craft she’d been working on. And I encouraged her to do more with it. “Cast your bread upon the waters,” (Ecclesiastes 11:1) I recommended friendly.

We also talked about our prayer lives. Each of us uses our morning dogwalk for a prayer time. I asked if she prayed in tongues. She did, but had let it lapse a little while.

When we pray in tongues, Holy Spirit prays, but we don’t see what’s happening. But it is important. It’s Biblical. There is power in the prayer tongue. It edifies the prayer. This is especially necessary during deliverance and prophecy. “Make 50 percent of your prayer life in tongues,” I also added. (1Corinthians 14:2, 4, 14, 15)

This young woman took no offence. She had been praying about what to do with her craft work, and said that I had given her confirmation to move forward.

And God had quickly answered my prayer, to bring people along to whom I could minister.

Lord Jesus said, “But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.” (Luke 8:15)

What I have learned from my elders I have passed to the younger generation. I was good soil when they planted the Word of God in me. This young woman is good soil as well.

In this way, the believer grows in his or her walk with Lord Jesus.

We the church need each other.

Lord, Call Me!

“The Disciples See Christ Walking on the Water,” Henry Ossawa Tanner, 1907; CC Wikipedia

One night, the disciples of Jesus were in a boat crossing Lake Galilee. The Lord came walking to them across the water. The disciples were petrified. They thought Lord Jesus was a ghost!

Peter though, being an outspoken man, said, "Lord, if it is You, call me to come to You on the water."

And so He did! The Lord shouted, “Come!” Peter, stepped out on to the surface of the deep depths of the dark and walked to His Lord. (Matt 14:22-33)

No other human ever did that again.

Have you ever asked The Lord to call you to do something that no one else has ever done?

Many pastors would say that is a dangerous prayer to pray.

Dangerous? Perhaps. Frightening? Maybe. But with The Lord there is a sense of purpose, calling, and even adventure. Peter surely felt this way.

We have all been placed here in this time and location for a purpose. (Acts 17:26-27) Will you fulfill yours? Will you seek to live your purpose to its fullest as Peter did?

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Peter lived for Lord Jesus. He left his home, his work, and his family to follow Him. Count the cost. (Luke 14:28) He was willing to take a risk. He was willing to do dangerous things. He followed hard behind his Lord up mountains and across valleys.

He was not perfect. Not highly educated. Peter was a simple fisherman from a village. And he made many mistakes, even denying knowing The Lord. But God still used Peter, in part, because Peter wanted to be of use to Lord Jesus. And he wanted to be where The Lord was, even out upon the water.

Will you too be used by Lord Jesus? Then pray, “Lord, call me to come to You, to follow You.” (Matthew 14:28; Revelation 14:4)

And The Lord will answer just as He answered Peter, “Come!” (Matthew 14:29)

The Inner Circle

Lord Jesus called many to follow Him, walk with Him, be with Him. Thousands came. Few remained. 12 were close to the Lord. We call these the disciples.

Three were a part of the Lord's inner circle—Peter, James and John. They saw more of Lord Jesus than the others.

One day they climbed with Him up the Mountain of Transfiguration. There, the Lord revealed Who He truly was: The Light of the World! (Matthew 17:1-8) His face shone like the sun and His clothing became as white as light.

Then, Moses and Elijah appeared. They were speaking with The Lord.

Peter spoke without thinking, saying, :”Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three tabernacles here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

And then God the Father spoke from a bright cloud which came over them, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”

Is Lord Jesus calling you to follow Him to a higher place too, and know Him better? Are you listening to Him?

You too will need to go where Lord Jesus goes. It will be a climb up the mountain. It will exert your time, energy, mind and body. But you will come to understand Who the Son of God really is. And you will understand the spiritual reality that truly exists beyond this earthly realm.

Hard work? Yes. Exciting? Yes. Worthwhile? Yes.

Frightening? Perhaps. But at the pinnacle of the mountain, Lord Jesus touched Peter, James and John, who were lying, face down to the ground, and said, “Get up, and do not be afraid.”

He was with them, and He will be with you.

Ask The Lord to take you higher and know Him better. Even better, pray, “Lord, take me and use me for Your glory. I give my life to You.” Become part of the inner circle.

Wedding Preparations

Weddings are joyous occasions!

In Cana, up in the Galilee, just outside Nazareth, Lord Jesus attended a wedding with His mother and disciples.

Wine was served at weddings 2000 years ago. The best bodied wine usually came first, the so-so wine came later. At this reception the wine ran out. Mary, Jesus' mother noticed. She asked Him for favor. Though it was not yet His time to do miracles, He granted her request. Waterpots used for ceremonial purification were filled with water by servants at the Lord's direction. Quick obedience was in action.

The waterpots were poured out for the head waiter to taste. Faith was in action.

The head waiter's job as superintendent of the dining hall was to taste the food and drink. He proclaimed to the bridegroom, "You have saved the best wine for later!" as Lord Jesus knew he would. (John 2:1-11) This was the first sign Lord Jesus did and it was at a wedding, a time of celebration and joy. "His disciples believed in Him."

At His will, the water became wine. (Colossians 1:15-18)

Lord Jesus longs to bring us closer to Him. He works and when He shows us what He is doing, it helps us to understand His love toward us. It is a close relationship. Throughout Scripture the image of a bride and bridegroom are used repeatedly to illustrate the tightness of the bond between The Lord and His church, between Him and us, between Him and you. It is meant to be a permanent bond. (Romans 8:38-39)

It is no mistake that the first miracle began at a wedding. It is no mistake that those who believe in Him will be invited to the Marriage of the Lamb (Lord Jesus). (Revelation 19:7,9)

Lord Jesus says, “Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!”

He is calling to you to come, come to Him. He loves you.

Ask The Lord to open your eyes and show you the great miracles He is doing in your life, how He is making you into the best wine, suitable for the marriage supper of the Lamb.

Call His Name

From Phillip Medhurst’s Bible in Pictures “The Pool of Bethesda” By Harold Copping (1863-1932) from “Scenes in the Life of our Lord” published by Religious Tract Society 1907. Location of original painting unknown. British artist Harold Copping traveled to Palestine and Egypt after being commissioned by the London Missionary Society to illustrate Biblical scenes like "The Pool of Bethesda." He was a member of The Salvation Army.

One Sabbath, Lord Jesus walked near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem, where there was a pool of water. This place was called “Bethesda,” or “House of Mercy” in Hebrew. Around the pool were five porches upon which laid many sick people. They were waiting for an angel of God to move the water in the pool. This movement would heal the first person to enter the water. A man had lain on one of the porches for many years.

Lord Jesus asked him, "Do you wish to get well?" The man had been sick for 38 years.

He answered the Lord, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me."

Lord Jesus responded, "Get up, pick up your pallet and walk." Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walk. (John 5:2-9)

Have you ever felt that there was no one to help you with a big problem? Lord Jesus is there. Just say, "Help me Lord!" He needs to hear from you, just as He had to hear from the sick man.

This help is available to anyone. Anyone who calls on the Name of Jesus. (Romans 10:12) He is the God of mercy. His mercies are new daily. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

He is alive. He is powerful. He is Lord over all things. (Colossians 1:17)

Call out to Him with all your hurts and needs. He loves you.
