i remember
where God’s power roars
beating against rock strewn with holes
driven over by sea and salt
its taste touches my tongue
my lips
blurring ink upon paper
like tears and wet mascara
a distant ship edges over morning’s horizon
bahama bound
gently, winter’s waves gentle to calm
a hello peaks
the curve of rise and dive
rise and dive repeats, repeats
the quiet greeting

yet we hold to what is good
what is secure
embedded in river’s bed

ignorant men
gambling for something they could not keep
just as He did not keep them at His death
“Father, forgive them” He prayed
instead

the ignorant watched and waited
then one proclaimed
“truly He was the Son of God!”
His life His own
Spirit given up
instead
beneath the cross
the pagans who dealt in death
erected life to leave from cross’s cruelish crucifixion
received their pay
while He —Savior for all who called His Name
paid for their sins

Upon This Rock, Kelly Jadon 2022
“Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb;
and you shall strike the rock,
and water will come out of it,
so that the people may drink.”
And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. (Exodus 17:6)
Moses, a type of Lord Jesus
stood upon the rock,
the rock of the desert—Horeb,
a place in the wilderness
Lord Jesus stood upon Golgotha—the place of the skull, (John 19:17)
of the head, the head of death
as Moses was the head of a people led by God
thirsty in the wilderness
so is Lord Jesus the head of a people (Ephesians 1:22)
thirsty for Him in a desert place
as the rock was struck by the rod of authority
the rod of Moses
so was Lord Jesus struck by the wrath of God
Who is the Authority
as He is the Rock, stricken (Isaiah 53:4-6)
so He also gave up His life of His own free will (John 10:18)
as water coursed out of the rock to quench the thirst
of a people
relying only upon the mercy and compassion of God
so too did water flow from the side of Jesus
from the cross, upon the rock, the skull of death
even from the Rock, the Lord
when soldier’s spear did pierce His side (John 19:34)
because of the mercy and compassion of God
upon all those who would turn to Him
as the water provided renewed life to a parched people
so too does Lord Jesus provide renewed life, life everlasting, life eternal (John 3:16)
to those who drink from Him
because He lives
He is the source of living water (John 4:10)
the water that will not cease
as Moses obeyed the Lord in the sight of all the people
so too was Lord Jesus lifted up
before all people (John 12:32)
in obedience to God the Father (Philippians 2:8)
upon the rock
the Lord overcame death by trampling death
raised to life (Mark 16:6)
He, the Rock, the Cornerstone of the Church (Matthew 21:42)
which shall not be overcome by death’s own darkness (Psalm 23:4)
neither those hidden in Him
the rod of Christ protects His own
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)
His obedience, His death, His rod, His life, His people,
all His
upon this Rock
“it is finished”

spoken from the rock of Calvary—the skull,

living words

our house shook today
because we knew that something must be done
to alter the outcome
to stop the killing
to save the children
before our children became weapons of war
there was a way in which we went
all those who called the cross of Christ correct
began America’s early colonial schools
and opened them
to the public
begun with God
in prayer, in the Word
continued well until
a fight broke out within the house
the holy house of God
peace left the schools that day
with the Word
and tumult came tumbling after
push out the prayer
cast out commandments
begin a philosophy of earth’s beginnings
disrespect dominated
not one, but three generations
so nearly now removed
Lord Jesus is unknown
His ways, His Word, His peace
heaping hallways instead
with curses
and evil unspeakable
out of the heart come evils (Matt 15:19)
which have filled the place
of God’s Word
the Words of life (John 6:63)—
leaving only death to rule

of a Man’s life

His blood, the Blood of God
gave His life
upon a wooden cross
peace can be returned to the nation
the country
the state
the city
the school
that returns to the Man, the Son of Man
Who paid the price
for with His death He has trampled death
how does death overcome death?
He rose from the grave after three days dead
He is the One Who lives
He is the One Who can make the peace
He is the One Who teaches
“love your neighbor as yourself”
He is the One Who paid the price, the cost

who is this Savior?
He is the King, the Prince of Peace
this Lord and Mighty One
He is Jesus
He is before us each and all
before us each and all is the cross
pointing north south east and west
His Blood and Flesh given for us
for peace
“peace?”
“can there be peace?”
peace is only found in Him
not in arms, not in mighty men
no, peace is found in the way of Christ
and those who truly follow Him
with Christ
there is peace in the home,
and peace in the Church on every side
there is peace in the nation
and peace in the schools
there is peace on the borders
and there is peace abroad
with Christ all things are possible
and there can be peace
where peace has never ruled
